Kristopher Carr was driving in the fast lane of I-93 in the wee hours of Oct. 29, when he leaned over to kiss a woman in the front seat of his 2020 Ford Explorer, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. With Carr's eyes on the woman and not on the road, his SUV swerved, slammed into the median, and came to a stop perpendicular to the highway, prosecutors said.
Christopher Pike, 51, didn't see the Explorer in the middle of the road until it was too late. His motorcycle crashed into it, and he flew off the bike and bounced off the pavement, authorities said. He died of his injuries at Boston Medical Center.
Responders rushed Carr and the woman to Mass General for treatment. Detectives who spoke with Carr said his eyes were glassy, and he spoke with a "heavy tongue," the DA's office said.
Reports at the time said Carr had six or seven alcoholic drinks at three different bars before getting behind the wheel of his car that night, MassLive.com said. He had graduated from the State Police academy a week before the wreck.
“As a member of law enforcement, Kristopher Carr had first-hand knowledge of the consequences that can result from driving drunk," Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. "That he chose to ignore those consequences cost Christopher Zike his life."
